Today, 7pm, Georgia Lynches Troy Davis

I am Troy Davis
I don't know what else to say about the Troy Davis situation, other that to offer my extreme disappointment in my native state. I will reiterate that if Troy Davis is innocent, we cannot undo death. If Troy Davis is guilty, he is incarcerated, and poses no threat to the public, and at an insignificant cost to the taxpayer. The fact that I have to even mention that last part reminds me how grim this situation is for all us in America on September 21, 2011, and how pessimistic our society has become.

The Troy Davis Post

Protesters in Paris, 2008
What hasn't already been written about the plight of convict Troy Davis?  The State of Georgia is set to execute Davis on Wednesday, September 21, and there is major doubt that he committed the crimes that he is convicted of. Respected organizations like the Innocence Project and Amnesty International have been raising awareness of Davis's situation. Further, more than 650,000 names have been added to petitions asking Georgia not to execute Davis.

Creating an immobile state of Georgia

Protesting Georgia's Stringent Immigration Laws
Earlier this week, I read an article about University of Georgia professors who were offering seminar classes to illegal immigrants and others who could no longer attend UGA classes because of stringent state policies on who may attend class at better quality universities in the state. Included in these new policies are rules that prevent illegal immigrants from attending schools like Georgia Tech or the University of Georgia.

Newton's Psychology: 1 year official! The West Memphis Three are free.

The West Memphis Three are free. My blog is 1 year old.

The blog has been live (officially) for 1 year, with the grand opening post coming 1 year ago today!

I've been reflecting on the blog experience all summer, so today's post will cover the West Memphis Three, who were (surprise!) released from prison over this past weekend after 18 long years. Now that's worth celebrating... and the circumstances are worthy of discussion, also.

Worthy Topics: Future Directions for the Blog

Enjoying the Olympia summer sun while it lasts!
There is some risk in not hyper-focusing my blog on one specific area of psychological research. I could lose readers who want to only read about a specific topic. I sacrifice in-depth coverage for a smattering of info a number of topics. However, I can't help but make this space a portal for psychology as it comes to us, and as covered in our media. In some ways, too, I can't help but think this way myself. Here are, however, a few topics I care about, and hope to cover in the new school year:
